Sigri and the petrified forest

by Jay

Sigri, Lesvos

On Thursday we went to Sigri to see the petrified forest, which is the largest in the world. We went to the museum. First we looked at some parts of trees that had turned to stone from a volcano eruption twenty million years ago.  After we looked at a few,  Dad and I looked at the first plants, animals and people on Earth. I found out that the first animal was the worm. The first bird was the archaeopteryx in the Jurassic period which was one hundred and forty five million years ago.

After that we went into another room and we watched a video that had a volcano erupting. Then we went to a little park place next door and we saw some really awesome petrified trees. There was an amazing really big petrified tree stump.

On the way back home we went to the actual petrified forest. We went for a walk down and we saw a huge tree. It looked about ten metres tall when it was lying down.

When we got back we went to the beach and we hired one single kayak. When I was on it I saw this really big white fish jump really high out of the water. It was probably one of the biggest fish I’ve seen here.

  3. Hi Jay. Do you think you could have caught the fish if you had a net?

  4. Hi Jay-man,
Well I'm missing you boys, my day is not quite the same, so much more relaxed :) , just kidding, but I am missing you both. Your posts and photos are amazing. i have added a link to Luca's story you may be interested in if you have spare time. The petrified forests look very interesting, however I like the sailing boats and kayaking the best I think. What temperature is the water over there, great for swimming I bet. Have you been fishing? What species are the best for eating and are they easy to catch?
    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxooooooooooMrs Herdman
