The Parthenon

By Sophia

Today we went to the Parthenon! We walked to the acropolis. It was really hot and when we were getting the tickets we went to get some water but they only had sparkling and everyone was really thirsty!!! We walked up the acropolis and when we got to the top we saw all the temples!!!!

The Parthenon had scaffolding on it and there were cranes because they were doing restoration work.

When we got back down to the bottom of the acropolis we went to the museum and had lunch. After lunch we looked around the museum. There were lots of old sculptures that they had found on the acropolis.

About 2500 years old!

These are not the original statues

  1. How wonderful that you have reached your "special study" at last Sophia! I'm sure you would have plenty to tell the family about it. When we were there the first time I had the flu so had no energy to walk up there but the next time, although it was fiercely hot, I made it and it was wonderful to see. They were working on it then too. It's funny how they like to drink sparkling water in Europe.

  2. Sophia, I don't think the Parthenon has changed since I was there when I was your age -- it had scaffolding back then! It's marvellous seeing things that are so old, isn't it, and trying to imagine what it was like 2500 years ago with people in togas walking around. Enjoy!
