The Monastery and Liota

by Sophia

On Sunday we went to a monastery called Pythariou.  A monastery is where religious monks live and spend their spiritual life devoted to their Christian beliefs.

We had to dress really nicely. When we were going there we saw the huge dam.

When we got up to the monastery we went into the church that was there and saw all the icons of the saints and some were really old.

Yesterday we went to Liota which is a village on the north coast. We had lunch at a small taverna.

After lunch we we went to the church and lit a candle. We also saw paintings that were painted in 1200 AD which was about 800 years ago.

On the way back we went to another little village called Antissa. We found a little cafe and had these things called Loukomades which are honey and cinnamon puffs. They were sooooooo yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. The monastery looks beautiful, Sophia. I particularly like the photo of the icons. And that's a great photo of you guys at the taverna, with the trees hanging over you and the lovely view behind. You're seeing some wonderful places and wonderful art -- and eating some wonderful food! You should bring the recipe for loukomades back with you!
