Sigri

By Sophia
The view from the monastery

On Wednesday we went to Sigri. When we got there we drove up a huge hill which is 511 metres high to the monastery at the top. It is so high because the monks want to be closer to god.

The monastery from below

When we got to the top we walked up lots of stairs and went in. Dad couldn't go in because he forgot his shirt!

The robes worn by the priests

The crown the archbishop wore

In the museum Yiayia and Papou talked to the monk and he said that there were only 5 monks that lived there and they grew all their own food. We saw the crown that the archbishop wore and lots of robes and staffs from hundreds and hundreds of years ago.

After that we went into the church and lit a candle.

After the monastery we went to the petrified forest museum and the petrified forest which Jay talked about. Then we went to a cafe for lunch.

After lunch we went to a castle that was from the 12 century  and we saw a big war ship.

  1. Looks like you are having a bit of an adventure each day. I'm not quite sure why you light a candle inside the church when it is daylight outside? Is there some reason?

I saw some great drawings by Luca about reptiles and such living over there. Thankfully they were just drawings. I'm not that keen on snakes.

Am so pleased George 'sort of' remembered what to do when you 'sort of' fell out of the boat Jay. Do you think you will do more sailing?

Ella, you have also included some very interesting accounts of the adventures which you have experienced. Do you swim in the pool each day? Or is it quite cold?

Have you eaten those filled grape leave things yet? I really like them and am wondering if they taste different in Greece than NZ.

Looking forward to hearing more about your trip.
    Take care
    Donna

  3. How funny that your Dad forgot his shirt! Can't imagine him doing that in New Zealand ... it's a little too cold here! It sounds like you guys are having a fabulous time -- you all look so relaxed and happy in that cafe photo. That's a big smile Jay's got!
